How to Hook Up a Dishwasher Drain

    • 1). Loosen by hand the plastic compression nut that secures the downpipe to your sink basket extension under your sink. The basket extension usually is chrome plated and comes directly out of your sink's drain. The extension pipe usually is white plastic and connects the basket extension pipe to the trap.

    • 2). Loosen the compression nut on the S-shaped or P-shaped trap by hand.

    • 3). Slide the extension pipe upward to release it from the trap, angle it out and then slide it off the basket extension pipe. A waste tee has a small tube extending from the side of it. This tube is where you will connect the flexible drain for the dishwasher.

    • 4). Slide the extension pipe with the waste tee onto the basket extension pipe and then seat the bottom of the waste tee pipe into the trap.

    • 5). Tighten both compression nuts to secure the pipe into place by hand.

    • 6). Slide the rubber boot on the end of the flexible drainpipe onto the waste tee as far as the boot will go. Tighten the band clamp on the boot with a screwdriver.
