How to Install a Spark Screen
- 1). Locate and remove the exhaust baffles on the engine. This is the part of the engine where the exhaust (or smoke) leaves the motor. There are usually three of more perforated metal plates, held in place with a screw.
- 2). Trim your sheet of spark screen to fit into the cavity that exists between two of the baffles. Spark screen is nothing more than heavy-duty metal mosquito screening and can be trimmer using a pair of heavy scissors.
- 3). Make a small hole for the screw to push through the screen so that the assembly can be replaced onto the motor.
- 4). Replace the exhaust baffles with installed screen back over the exhaust port. Screw the screw back into the hole it was removed from until tight. Start the motor and test for function by monitoring the amount of exhaust gasses emitted by the motor. The screen should not have greatly affected the flow of exhaust gas.
