Meal Ideas for Leftover Ham

    Pasta Dishes

    • For a delicious, cheesy, warm, comfort food, add chopped ham to creamy macaroni and cheese. Place in a shallow dish, layer shredded cheese on top and bake until the cheese is golden and bubbly. For a slightly less casual meal, add chopped ham and peas to cooked pasta, such as fettuccine or penne. Finish off the dish with your favorite Alfredo sauce. Cold pasta salad is also made more flavorful with the addition of ham. Toss spiral-shaped pasta with low-fat mayonnaise, ranch dressing, shredded cheddar cheese, cubed ham and any other favorite vegetables for a quick pasta salad perfect for a summer get-together.

    Salads

    • Ham is the perfect addition to a salad that is hearty and satisfying enough to be a meal. Add cubed ham pieces to salad greens, chopped, hard-boiled eggs, bacon bits, shredded cheese, croutons, diced avocado and your favorite chopped vegetables. Top off with salad dressing for a quick and delicious lunch or dinner.

    Sandwiches

    • Leftover ham can be incorporated into a number of paninis and sandwiches. Of course, the classic grilled ham and cheese sandwich is always a favorite. Try a ham and Swiss sandwich with Dijon mustard, then heat on a panini press, skillet or grill until the cheese has melted. A Hawaiian ham panini is also delicious and unique. Place ham, cheese and a slice of pineapple on bread and grill. For an interesting twist on a traditional ham and cheese sandwich, layer the meat and cheese on a soft tortilla, then cover with another tortilla, grill, and slice into triangles for a ham and cheese quesadilla.

    Pizza

    • Hawaiian pizza has become a pizzeria staple and it is simple to make at home with leftover ham. Start by either making your own crust, or buy a prebaked pizza crust at the grocery store. Spread pizza sauce, sprinkle with cheese, then add small chunks or slices of ham. Dice fresh or canned (well-drained) pineapple and arrange on top of the pizza. Bake until the cheese is bubbly and golden. Another creative idea your family may enjoy is ham pizza made with Alfredo sauce in place of traditional marinara sauce. Spread the Alfredo sauce over the pizza crust, layer with mozzarella cheese, then place chopped ham on top. Finish off with your favorite vegetables, such as broccoli, mushrooms, onions and bell peppers. Bake until the cheese is bubbling, then serve and enjoy.

    Breakfast Dishes

    • The combination of ham and eggs allows for a variety of breakfast options for getting rid of that leftover ham. Add ham and your favorite ingredients to scrambled eggs, omelets and quiches. Make a hearty breakfast sandwich by cooking eggs your favorite way and serving them on a bagel or English muffin with cheese and a thick slice of ham. For a great breakfast side dish, add diced ham to a hot skillet with diced potatoes and onions and a little bit of butter. Cook until the potatoes are slightly browned and the onions are translucent.
