- 1). Give your young ficus five gallons of water weekly. Mature plants do well on moisture from precipitation only, unless a drought occurs in the growing season.
- 2). Feed your Ficus a 10-10-10 fertilizer once a month to provide it a regular amount of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. Stop fertilization in fall and winter.
- 3). Spray horticultural oil or insecticidal soap if scales infest the tree.
- 4). Protect your ficus from winter’s cold by building a three-foot mound of mulch around its base in autumn before the first freeze.
