How to Tie a Man's Necktie

    • 1). Fold the collar of your shirt up. Drape the necktie around the collar of your neck. Lay the ends of the necktie flat on the front of your shirt with the right sides facing out. The wide end of the necktie should be on your right side and the skinny end of the necktie should be on your left side. Adjust the ends with the skinny end higher than the wide end by approximately 6 inches.

    • 2). Cross the wide end of the necktie over the skinny end of the necktie. Keep the right sides of the necktie facing out. You will have an "X" shape on the front of your shirt. Keep it loose at this point. You do not need to be working the knot at the neck.

    • 3). Continue by wrapping the wide end of the necktie under the skinny end of the necktie. The skinny end will be vertically positioned down the center of the shirt with the right side facing out, and the wide end of the necktie will be pointed to the right, horizontally, with the wrong side facing out.

    • 4). Wrap the wide end of the necktie over the skinny end of the necktie to the left. Take the wide end to the back and insert up through the top "Y" of the wrapped necktie. Pull the wide end of the necktie all the way up.

    • 5). With the right side of the wide end of the necktie facing out, insert it into the front wrap or knot at the top of the necktie. Pull the wide end of the necktie down. Adjust the knot to fit around the neck by tugging on the skinny end of the necktie while sliding the knot up. Lay the wide end over the skinny end to complete the knot.
