Kenya is one of the most popular destinations for safaris. Tourists can take safaris to large wildlife parks such as Maasai Mara, Tsavo, Amboseli and Lake Nakuru. Travelers can choose from a range of accommodations at these parks, including mobile safari tented camps, lodges, villas and hotels. Kenya safaris differ in length and either remain within Kenya or incorporate Kenya as part of a larger itinerary. Price ranges vary greatly. The safaris are usually expensive but all-inclusive.

    Great Wildebeest Migration

The Great Wildebeest Migration takes place every year. It is the circular migration of wildebeest, gazelles, African buffalo, zebra, elephants and other herbivores from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to Maasai Mara in Kenya. It is one of the last great migrations on planet Earth. The animals annually arrive in Kenya's Maasai Mara between July and September and then leave by December or January. They must dodge predators, such as lions, crocodiles, leopards, jackals, hyenas and other scavengers, along their journey. The best spot to view the migration is at the Mara River. The animals cross here in constant masses during the migration. Crocodiles lay camouflaged in the water for attack. There are a range of Maasai Mara tours to choose from. A short three-day tour is the Maasai Mara fly-in safari that can be booked through TravelSpark.com. This includes air transport from Nairobi into Maasai Mara and tent accommodations while in the park. The Kichwa Tembo & Balloon Safari is a day longer, with accommodations in Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp. The camp is located deep in a monkey-rich forest. Safari participants will take balloon trips on the third day of this trip. You can find rates for this trip at Go2Africa.com, and you can make phone inquiries at 1-888-818-8821 in the U.S. and +2-721-481-4910 in South Africa. You can see excellent views of the migration from the Masai Mara Sopa Lodge, which is located on the eastern border of the park and provides numerous game drives, walking safaris and hot-air balloon rides for its guests.

    The Great Walk of Africa

    • The Great Walk of Africa is a two-week safari through Tsavo National Park and consists of a 120-mile walk following wild trails through Tsavo West and Tsavo East National Park. Along the walk, travelers will see the famous "Man-eaters of Tsavo" den. This is the den of two lions who repeatedly attacked and ate railway workers for nine months in 1898. The 1996 movie "The Ghost and the Darkness" was based on these lions. Visitors will walk game trails along the Tsavo River and also the entire length of the Galana River. Hippo, giraffe, lion, elephant, zebra and other wildlife sightings are possible along the way. Tsavo has the largest elephant ecosystem in the world, and the Tsavo River is a popular hangout for them. The Galana River area has one of the largest lion populations in the world. The walk ends with a stay in a hotel in Malindi on the Indian Ocean coast.
