Buying Salt and Soap
Salt and soap for washing clothes are two of those essentials that require villagers to spend cash, and that is always in short supply. Not only do you get to enjoy making a traditional meal on this tour, but you also get a chance to see what daily life is like in a traditional, rural village. It's not polite, or friendly to come empty handed, so Victor suggested we buy soap and salt to give to those women whose homes we planned to visit. Depending on what the previous visitors came with, you could also bring sugar, tea, vegetable oil, or anything else that is a necessity and requires cash to get.
The gift of soap and salt was all part of the tour fee, along with all the food for lunch as well as the small fee paid to the headman for the visit.
