How to Spot Fake Oakleys

    • 1). Look for the words "Made in U.S.A." on the inside of one of the stems. These can be either painted or engraved, depending on the frame style. Real Oakleys are made in America rather than Taiwan or China.

    • 2). Check the Oakley website to see if the color matches available colors in that particular frame. All metal Oakley frames only come in very neutral metal tones.

    • 3). Rub a pencil eraser over the logo on the nose piece of the frames. The logo on fake Oakleys will usually wear off easily.

    • 4). Feel the weight of the glasses in your hands. Oakleys are made of durable metals and alloys. Fake versions are usually composed of plastics and cheaper metals, thus making them lighter.

    • 5). Examine the "O" on the stem of the glasses. Real Oakleys have a raised lettering that is still present even if the paint is worn. Many fakes use a screen printing method so the "O" can be scratched off, and no raised edge is present.

    • 6). Look for stickers on the glasses. True Oakleys never have stickers placed anywhere on the frames or the lenses.
