Casa Calvet

One of Eixample's premiere restaurants, Casa Calvet is as renowned for its modernist architecture as it is for its Mediterranean food. That's because dining at Casa Calvet is a rare chance to eat in a building created by Gaudi.

Casa Calvet was originally designed by Gaudi for a textile company and was constructed between 1898 and 1900. The symmetry and order on display in the architecture are unusual for Gaudi, whose other work rejects these conventions, favouring organic, assymetrical structures.

The textile company's original offices and meeting rooms have been converted into intimate dining rooms. There are exquisite wood carvings and stained glass throughout the restaurant, adding to the feel of turn-of-the-century Barcelona.

The menu is a nouveau take on traditional Spanish and Catalan specialities, with delights such as cod confit with porcino mushrooms, olives and artichoke chips or rack of Iberian ham stewed with Priorat wine.
