London Wetland Centre consists of 42 hectares of wetland and reed beds created by The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT), a leading UK conservation organization saving wetlands for wildlife and people across the world. This wildlife reserve visitor attraction is considered to be one of the best and most important urban wildlife sites in Europe and has been created to attract thousands of wild birds from around the world.
You arrive at a courtyard with a large observatory and a children's indoor 'Discovery Centre'. The nature reserve leads your through 'World Wetlands' with wetland habitats and wildfowl from around the world, then the 'Wildside' reed beds. There are safe, hard-surfaced paths throughout making this accessible for all.
It's not a circular route, so come back to the cafe, or stop at a picnic area, then go on to more exploring and bird watching and the children's open air adventure play area.
There are daily events such as bird feeds and guided tours, and more events in the UK school holidays and weekends.
When I visited I found the London Wetland Centre was popular was preschool children and babies but I suspect the parents of the babies enjoyed their walk more. There were also serious bird watchers and photographers enjoying the close proximity of the birds and wetlands.

How To Get There: The simplest route on public transport is to get the tube to Hammersmith station, then catch the 283 bus from bus stop K directly to the London Wetland Centre.

- Spring: Look for the ducklings and frogs in the ponds.
- Summer: Lots of bird song and flowers.
- Autumn: Arrival of migrating birds.
- Winter: Rare birds in the reed beds and ducks with colorful plumage
