Tune Hotels London Canary Wharf Review

The fifth London property for this budget hotel chain opened in 2015. London Canary Wharf joins the list of Tune Hotels properties in London Kings Cross, London Liverpool Street, London Paddington, London Westminster, Edinburgh and Newcastle, as well as across Asia and one in Australia.

While Tune Hotels is all about the lower room rates (Tune Canary Wharf has rates from £55) they still have everything a good hotel stay should offer.

All rooms have Hypnos beds and power showers as these are considered essentials. You do pay extra for non-essential facilities and services if you use them, which seems to be a fairer system. Air-conditioning/heating is an essential so you'll always have that but you pay a fee to use the hotel wifi and the TV. Do note, towels and toiletries are an optional add-on.

Tune Hotels guests are kept safe as there's electronic keycard access into rooms, CCTV systems, and no access into the main lobby without a keycard past midnight.

Location

The Docklands location of Tune Hotels Canary Wharf has good transport links. It's a short walk to the Jubilee Line to reach The O2 or to go into central London.

The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) has two nearby stations (Westferry and West India Quay) for transport links to London City Airport, Greenwich and central London.

And the excellent Museum of London Docklands is just one minute away.

Both buildings have secure entry systems and are accessed by guests keycard only.

My Review - Tune Hotels Canary Wharf

We were welcomed by friendly staff on Reception and check-in was quick. There's quite a large Reception area with seating, plus a free jukebox for guests to use. You can also buy drinks and snacks at Reception.

The lift/elevator is operated by keycard to keep guests safe and we found our double room with a window easily.

The first impression of the room was how much bigger it was than I expected. Having stayed in Tune Liverpool Street and Tune Paddington I can say the room sizes have increased. I was even able to do morning exercises/stretches beside the bed.

There's no phone in the room but as the Reception has staff 24 hours a day I don't feel that's a problem.

The room is mostly white with red accents (hangers, folding chair, bin). The London influence is on the mirror over the bed headboard as there's a stenciled London black cab, Big Ben and London Eye. There's also a full length mirror on the back of the door.

There's lots of storage space under the bed and some open shelving on one side of the bed. There's a folding chair available and two fold down tables for working or eating.

There's a glass door on the bathroom but it's not in line with the bed so we could leave the door open for more space. There's a shower, basin and toilet and a large mirror.

The mood lighting was a fun extra as you can change the color as well as dim the lighting.

The bed was surprisingly warm so we put the air-con on which also helped with background noise while sleeping. This also disguised any slight traffic noise from the street (it is a quiet street but there is traffic throughout the night) and we could hear some noise from the corridor (voices and doors shutting). I would recommend ear plugs if you are a very light sleeper.

It's quite an early check-out time (10am) but we were greeted with a smile when we went back to Reception and staff had recommendations for places for breakfast.

We stayed for a while to enjoy the free jukebox and heard lots of great comments from guests checking-out.

I think it's an excellent location if you're seeing a concert at The O2, or just want to see a different area of London.
