How to Skate Rails
- 1). Stand on your skateboard with your feet positioned as though you were going to perform an ollie. This means placing your back foot on the tail of the board, and your front foot just behind the front bolts.
- 2). Approach the rail at a slight angle. The amount of speed you need will be determined by the rail, so it's best to start with a low, short rail so you can work at lower speeds. Because this trick is performed Frontside, the toe-side of your board should be facing the rail.
- 3). Pop an ollie just before reaching the rail. If your ollie is clean and high enough, attempt to level your board out over the rail with both the front and back trucks centered directly over it.
- 4). Land with both trucks centered on the rail. Ideally, your feet will be near the bolts of your board and your trucks will hit the rail at the exact same time. Bend your knees to absorb the impact and to help stay balanced over the rail.
- 5). Slide down the length of the rail. As you reach the end, apply a little pressure to the tail of your skateboard. This pressure will keep the nose up as you come off the rail and prevent any nasty wipeouts.
- 6). Fall off the end of the rail and land squarely on the ground with all four wheels hitting at the same time. You’ve just completed a Frontside 50-50 grind.
