Mauritius is an island nation located in the southwestern part of the Indian Ocean and off the southeast coast of Africa. First colonized by the Dutch, Mauritius later became a French colony then was, for a while, a British colony, gaining independence in 1968. Since then, Mauritius has flourished as an exotic tourist destination for wealthy travelers, and there are some relatively expensive luxury hotels currently located on the island.

The hotel bills itself as Mauritius' most prestigious address, and it is certainly among the most expensive places to stay on the island. Luxury accommodations at the Royal Palm include private suites, swimming pools, a spa and three award-winning restaurants.
