How to Stop Vista From Automatically Installing a Device Driver

    • 1). Log into the Windows Vista computer with the username and password of an account that has administrator permissions on the computer.

    • 2). Click the "Start" button on the Windows Vista taskbar and click the "Search" box.

    • 3). Type "View Advanced System Settings" in the "Search" box and press the "Enter" key.

    • 4). Click the "Hardware" tab and then click "Device Installation Settings." The Device Installation Settings window appears.

    • 5). Click the "No, Let Me Choose What to Do" radio button and then click the "Never Install Driver Software From Windows Update" radio button. Click "Save Changes" to save the setting.
