Table Decorations - Candles
Dressing up a table with candles is one of the simplest and least costly ways to decorate.
At the same time it has the potential for the greatest payoff in terms of the beauty of the table and in setting a 'tone' or 'scene' for your party.
In general you have two 'candle' options for decorating your table: candle centerpieces and individual candles at each place setting: Candle centerpieces: Candle centerpieces can be created with one candle or several.
If it is one candle, it is usually a large pillar candle.
Setting it on a decorative candle plate/holder will not only elevate its height - but also its impact.
These plates/holders can be purchased inexpensively at craft stores or even Target.
Setting out two tapers is also nice - creating an elegant look.
If you want to use more than two candles, which can look beautiful, I suggest having the candles in different lengths.
Either stick with all pillars or all tapers - mixing them usually doesn't look as good as keeping it to just one or the other.
Individual candles at each place setting: Typically the type of candle that is placed at each place setting is a votive or a tea light.
If a votive - they can be purchased in their own holder or on their own.
If the latter you will need to provide candle plates/holders for them.
If they are tea lights then they most likely already come in some type of holder (although if you are re-using the holders you can purchase the tea light candles separately).
The wonderful thing about votive and tea lights is that their holders come in a very wide variety of styles and themes, making it somewhat easy to find the perfect look for your party.
Popular styles and themes include: elegant holders or candle shapes which are perfect for wedding receptions and anniversary parties, fun shapes such as golf balls, martini's and birthday cakes for birthday parties, fairytale shapes for sweet sixteen parties, and shell, pails, and sailboats for beach parties.
As a bonus many of these votives and tea lights can also serve as the party favors.
Guests will be thrilled to take the holders home with them and re-use them.
