Solve Party Planning Differences With Your Child

Planning a party can be a bit stressful.
A source of that stress can come from you and your child not agreeing on what type of birthday party to throw.
If your child wants a sleepover with 30 of their closest friends and you were hoping for a small, intimate party with 5 guests, it can take some work to come to a compromise.
Here are some tips for overcoming party planning differences with your child.
It is a good idea to have a meeting with your child on some neutral ground.
Make the day special by spending some time at a favorite restaurant or coffee shop.
Order dessert or a hot chocolate for each of you and sit down to talk.
Party planning should be fun and not stressful.
Let your child talk first.
Ask them what type of party they want, who they want to invite, and what kinds of games they want to play.
 Take notes.
Find out if they have any other ideas for their birthday party.
Then it is your time to talk.
Start off with the things you can agree on, even if there is just one.
Perhaps it is the menu or a party game.
Let them know what your objections are and give them a solid reason why.
For example, if you do not have the budget or space for a 30 guest sleepover, perhaps a between meal party where you serve cake and snacks would work.
Once you work out one detail, the others will follow.
It is possible to overcome party planning differences.
It will take a bit of time and effort from both of you.
