ISSAQ - A worthy adaptation of Othello
The trailers of Manish Tiwary's ISSAQ starring Prateik and AmyraDastur are been viewed and liked by a lot and is spreading its spark like thunder. Issaq is an Indian adaptation of William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. We see the story transposed to Banaras and its neighboring areas that are witness to violence unleashed by sand mafia controlled by urban elite and equally violent retaliation by Naxalite armies.
The sand mafia is run by two influential Banarasi families, Kashyaps and Mishras, who are at brutal feud with each other. Kashyap has an 18-year old, pretty and innocent daughter Bachchi from his first wife. Bachchi's role is played by Amyra Dastur who marks her debut in this film. Issaq has a vintage look, and is a complete love story with action and drama. Issaq is a wonderful journey of two lovers of the rival families, and how things change when they fall in love. Disregarding the consequences, the young lovers choose to go ahead with the dictats of their hearts. Issaq tells us to follow our heart and move in the direction of love. Issaq is a love story of two lovers who believe in their love and can fight the world to be together. The first track Issaq Tera is an out-and-out winner, with singer Mohit Chauhan spinning magic with his voice. This soft number, where the sound of the flute is very soothing to the ears, talks about a simple and sweet love story. It has good lyrics and once you warm up to it, you're left asking for more.
Issaq Tera has a duet version as well. Singer Smriti Jain joins Mohit behind the mike for the number, which begins with a grand instrumental piece. The singers complement each other very well in this short, but beautiful number. The movie has a brilliant flow and is shot in Banaras.
