How to Make a Call on a WiFi Plane

    • 1). Establish a Wi-Fi Internet connection on board your airplane. Depending on the airlines, you may have to pay a fee to use the Internet on board the airplane.

    • 2). Make calls directly from your web browser using the "Google Talk" application. Download and install the "Google Talk software (see Resources) and sign up for a free Google Account. Once you are in the application, simply enter the phone number into the text box and press the "Call" button to initiate the connection. In order to communicate with the recipient, you will need to have a built-in laptop microphone or an external microphone.

    • 3). Download and install the free "Skype" program. In order to perform video chats, you will need a built-in or external web camera and microphone. Skype also gives you the option to perform a simple audio chat with the recipient if you do not have a web camera attached. If you want to make a call to a landline, there will be an initial charge for the connection and a variable rate depending on the location you are calling. If you are making a call over Skype, the service is free as long as the recipient also has the Skype program installed on his computer.
