Apply cleanser properly according to the manufacturer's directions. Read the directions for every facial cleanser you use. These directions cannot substitute for the manufacturer's recommendations.

Apply water to your face. Using your hands or a wet washcloth, apply a bit of water before you apply cleanser to the face. Adding the water first will help the cleanser spread evenly over the skin.

Rub facial cleansing product all over your face. Avoid the eyes, lips and nostril areas, as you work the cleanser into the skin. Use small circular motions with your fingers to help the cleanser penetrate.

Wash with warm water, using a washcloth. Removing facial cleanser properly requires the use of a washcloth and warm water. Wipe away from the eye area and toward the hair line.

Rinse the washcloth and repeat. Wash your face a second time with a clean washcloth to ensure all facial cleanser is properly rinsed off.

Using a clean dry washcloth, gently pat the face dry before applying moisturizer or other facial products.
