- 1). Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Windows Update" from the Start menu. The "System & Maintenance: Windows Update" window will launch.
- 2). Click the "Change Settings" link in the left pane.
- 3). Click the radio button in front of the desired option. Available options are "Install Updates Automatically," "Download Updates But Let Me Choose Whether to Install Them," "Check for Updates but Let Me Choose Whether to Download and Install Them," and "Never Check for Updates."
- 4). Click the dropdown lists labeled "Install New Updates" to select a frequency and time of day for update checks, if the "Install Updates Automatically" option was selected.
- 5). Check the checkbox in the "Recommended Updates" section to download and install Recommended (along with Critical) updates.
- 6). Click the "OK" button. The window will close and the settings will be saved.
