How to Make An Awesome Sock Puppet
- 1). Choose a medium length sock that fits the hand of the puppeteer. You want the back the wrist to fit into the heel of the sock.
- 2). Cut a slit in the sock where the puppets mouth will be, between your thumb and fingers. Set the sock aside.
- 3). Cut an oval out of poster board, cardboard or plastic that can bend. When folded the oval should fit into your hand between the thumb and fingers, and fit into the sock's mouth slit. The standard measurement is 3 inches across and 5 inches long, but feel free to adjust measurements to your hand and sock.
- 4). Cut a piece of fabric the same measurements as the oval. Glue the fabric to the back of the oval. Allow it to dry, and then fold it in half.
- 5). Sew the oval into the mouth slit of the sock. For a more finished look, pull the lips of the sock over the ridge of the oval and sew through. You can use any color yarn or thread depending on the look you want.
- 6). Test the puppets ability to move its mouth. If your puppet can talk and move easily, then you can start decorating.
- 7). Add hair, googley eyes and clothes to suit your sock puppet's character. Use glue, thread and yarn to create fun and new looks.
