Common Mistakes Made by Muslims During Ramadan

This post explains some common mistakes that most of Muslims make during the month of Ramadan and how to avoid them

Mistake no. 1: Many of the Muslims stay awake for full night and sleep in the daytime, which is completely wrong and is not allowed by the Quran.

No.2 - Taking Ramadan as a ritual: Most of the Muslims take Ramadan as a ritual fasting from day to night. They forget the real purpose behind the fasting. It is so that one can purify his/her soul and pray as much as he can.

No.3 - Too much time on food and drink: Most of people give way too much time thinking and planning about their food during Ramadan instead of giving their time for Salah, Quraan and other acts of worship. Some others spend their whole day cooking

No.4 - Eating too much: Some people just try to fill their stomach as much as they can so that they do not feel hungry any soon, which is against the Sunnah. Too much food is unhealthy in any situation whether you are fasting or not

No.5 - Wasting time: One of the most important things about fasting is that it should not change your daily routine and habits. Apart from the time you give in praying, you should keep doing your regular tasks without wasting time

No.5 - Not purifying the soul: The basic idea behind fasting is the purification of soul. So, if you are fasting, but do not give up the evil habits including lying, cursing, fighting, cheating, stealing, etc. then you are not doing any good

No.6 - Skipping Suhoor (sehri): The Prophet said: 'Eat suhoor for in suhoor there is blessing. The thing that differentiates between our fasting and the fasting of the People of the Book is eating suhoor.'

No.7 - Missing the prayer at the time of breaking fast: This is the time when most of the prayers are accepted and sins are forgiven

No.8 - Fasting but not praying: This is also a wrong deed. The Prophet said: 'between a man and shirk and kufr there stands his giving up prayer.'

No.9 - Fasting and not wearing Hijaab (For women): Not wearing the Hijaab is a major sin

No.10 - Not fasting because of some minor reason: It is okay not to fast if you are suffering from a serious disease or are pregnant, but giving up fasting because of exam or work is just a stupid excuse.
