How to Remove Mildew With Cleaning Solution
- 1). Mix 25 drops of tea tree oil into 1 cup distilled white vinegar. Put this mixture into a spray bottle. Spray on any mildewed areas. Let sit for 15 minutes and then wipe with a sponge. The tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic that helps to kill the source of the mildew while the acidic vinegar breaks it up so you can wipe it away.
- 2). Mix 3/4 cup of household bleach with 1 gallon of water in a bucket. Use this mixture to clean large surfaces affected by mildew such as bathroom, kitchen or laundry room walls. This is a good mixture to use for scrubbing shower enclosures that are inclined to mildew. The bleach will kill the mold and help keep it from coming back. Ammonia may be used in place of bleach with similar results.
- 3). Mix 1 cup ammonia, 1/2 cup white vinegar, 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 gallon of water. This mixture is good for cleaning mildew from outdoor wood furniture. Use a sponge soaked in the mixture to clean the furniture, then rinse well and use a towel to dry immediately.
- 4). Dissolve 1/2 cup borax in 2 cups hot water. Use a sponge dipped in this mixture to clean mildew from upholstered furniture.
- 5). Remove mildew from washable clothing by adding a cup of white vinegar to the water when washing. For more stubborn mildew, add 1/4 cup borax.
