How to Repair a Cedar Deck

    • 1). Clean the deck by using a hose to spray it. Use a putty knife can help to remove debris between the boards. Once the deck has been sprayed, use a fiber bristle scrub brush, and water and laundry detergent to scrub the deck. Rinse and allow the deck to dry thoroughly.

    • 2). Inspect the deck for serious damage. Sand rough areas, sink in loose screws or nails, and replace boards that need replacing.

    • 3). Clean the deck with a deck cleaner in order to remove graying or discoloration due to UV rays. Follow the manufacturer's directions. Rinse thoroughly after application. Allow the deck to dry completely.

    • 4). Apply a sealer to protect your deck against future discoloration and surface damage. Follow the manufacturer's directions. Do not shake the sealer. Apply it with a paint roller and extension. Be careful to avoid large puddles. Use a paintbrush to get into corners. The deck should be cured before use.
