Seamen Find a Prayer in "The Verses of a Mariner" Poem
"The Verses of a Mariner" is an original Christian poem in the form of a seaman's prayer.
The Verses of a Mariner
The Lord God Almighty
Who towers above the waves,
All praise and thanks to thee
For keeping me safe and brave.
Magellan crossed a calm Pacific;
There I met a storm terrific.
The voyage of Del Cano
Now takes less than you know.
Leaving Japan’s typhoon
To meet the Indian monsoon
Through the China Sea;
What else is there to see?
Round the world I have been,
Plenty I have seen.
I have traveled far at sea,
What is left to see?
It was marvelous to see
God’s heavenly glory
Reflected on the seven seas;
His handiwork on the waves.
With hindsight one can say
The sea’s no place to stay;
I've seen both land and sea
On land I’d rather be.
