How to Remove the Shower From a Doublewide Trailer
- 1). Turn off the water supply to the shower, either by turning off the water valve to the structure or by locating the hot and cold shut-off valves for the shower. Note all electrical outlets and lighting fixtures in the bathroom and neighboring rooms to avoid damaging wiring. Shut off the circuit breakers if you are in danger of hitting a wire when demolishing a wall.
- 2). Climb under the mobile home and cut the shower drain pipe as close as possible to the drain using a hack saw. Cut all caulk and glue around the shower and shower doors using a utility knife. Remove the shower doors and door trim using screwdrivers or wrenches.
- 3). Cut through the drywall surrounding the shower using a utility knife or drywall saw.
- 4). Demolish the shower walls with a sledgehammer or carefully pry them off with a pry bar (if you want to preserve the shower walls).
- 5). Remove all nails, fixtures and debris from the wall studs with a pry bar. Cut the hot and cold water supply pipes using a hack saw. Terminate the hot and cold pipes with caps or valves using the same material as the existing pipes.
- 6). Demolish the shower base with a sledgehammer, or pry it up with a pry bar and hammer. Remove all debris and nails from the subfloor.
- 7). Terminate the drain pipe by capping it below the floor using the same material as the existing drain pipe.
- 8). Attach new wooden studs to the existing floor joists and wall studs with framing nails, if necessary, to provide a solid base for the new floor and wall.
- 9). Install a new subfloor by fastening plywood to the floor joists with framing nails. Install a new wall by fastening 5/8-inch greenboard drywall to the wall studs with drywall nails or screws.
