How to Open a .Kap File
- 1). Visit MapTechNavigation.com.
- 2). Click the "Learn More" link underneath the "U. S. Boating Charts" heading.
- 3). Click "Add to Cart" in the left column. As of the date of publication, ".kap" files were not viewable with any free software, and they are used almost exclusively with MapTech navigation software. If you already have MapTech's software, skip to step 6.
- 4). Proceed with the site's checkout, providing credit card information.
- 5). Insert the MapTech installation disc after it arrives in the mail. MapTech's software is not available for direct download, but expedited shipping is available. The installation process is automated, and you just need to click through a series of onscreen "Next" prompts to install the software.
- 6). Open MapTech's U.S. Boating Charts software.
- 7). Click "File."
- 8). Click "Open."
- 9). Double-click the ".kap" file you want to open. The chart opens and appears on your screen.
