How to Set Up a Windows XP DSL Connection

    • 1). Connect the DSL modem to the computer using the Ethernet cable. Use the plugs for Ethernet connections located on the back of each device.

    • 2). Connect one end of the telephone cable to the DSL modem; connect the other end to the phone jack.

    • 3). Connect a DSL filter to each device that uses a phone line.

    • 4). Plug the modem into the power outlet and turn it on. The DSL modem activates several different lights, indicating the status of the various connections, as well as whether the modem has power. Once all of the lights have activated, move to the next step.

    • 5). Turn on your computer, and then open up your web browser. If you are taken directly to your homepage or a login page, your setup is finished. If not, proceed to the next step.

    • 6). Go to the Start Menu, and then click on "Control Panel." Double-click on "Networking and Internet."

    • 7). Click on "Network and Sharing Center," and then click "Set up a connection or network."

    • 8). Click "Connect to the Internet" to connect to the network.
