Building Solar Screens

    • 1). Measure the length and the width of your old screens, using a measuring tape. Use a hacksaw to cut your new screen frame according to the measurements from your old screen.

    • 2). Assemble in your screen frames with the channel side up. The channel should be situated close to the inside of the screen. Slide the plastic corners into the bottom length of the frame, then slide the sides of the frame onto the plastic corners. Locate the top section of frame and slide the corner springs into each end. The curved side of the spring is on the outside of the frame and the flat side of the spring is inside the screen frame opening. Slide the plastic corners into both ends of the top frame piece and attach the sides to the top frame. The plastic corners are designed so you will not have to miter-cut your frame. No special tools are required and the screens are hand-assembled.

    • 3). Cut a length of solar screen to fit your frame measurements, using utility shears. Cut your solar screen 2 inches longer and wider than your frame measurements.

    • 4). Install the solar screen into the frame. Lay the screen frame channel side up and lay your solar screen over the frame. Start at the bottom left corner of the screen frame. Lay your spline over the channel with the solar screen material between the spline and the frame. Use a spline roller and push the spline into the channel as you are rolling the spline roller along the channel. Move up from the bottom, across the top and down the opposite side. Keep the solar screen pulled tight as you install the spline.

    • 5). Install the pull tabs onto the solar screen and frame. Lay the pull tabs onto the screen about 4 inches from each side. Install the spline as you did in step 4, capturing the pull tabs underneath the spline. Check the corners of your screen frame for any loose spline. Use a flat-head screwdriver to push any loose spline into the channel at the corners of the frame. Trim the excess solar screen material from your frame with a utility knife.
