How to Transfer Windows XP Pro to a New Computer

    Uninstall the Operating System from the Old Computer

    • 1). Restart your computer. As it boots up, press the "F8" key continuously to boot your computer in safe mode.

    • 2). Type in the administrator's password, if you have one. Click "Start Windows XP Pro in Safe Mode."

    • 3). Click on the "Start" menu that is located on the bottom-left side of your computer screen once Windows XP Pro has booted.

    • 4). Click "Control Panel" and then "Add or Remove Programs."

    • 5). Scroll down and double-click on "Uninstall Windows XP Professional." Click "Yes" to un-install the operating system. Once the operating system is un-installed, you can install it on the new computer.

    Install Windows XP Professional to New Computer

    • 1). Turn on the new computer and insert the Windows XP Professional installation CD. The computer will automatically boot from the CD.

    • 2). Press "Enter" once the computer automatically checks the current system for hardware and configuration. The installation process will now continue.

    • 3). Press the "F8" key to accept the Windows XP Professional License Agreement.

    • 4). Select NTFS by using the arrow keys and then press "Enter." This will format the hard drive. The installation of Windows XP Professional will now be completed. The process could take from 10 to 20 minutes. Once completed, the computer will automatically reboot. Once Windows boots, you will need to enter your language and time. Click "Next" to continue.

    • 5). Type in the "Product Key" which is located on the CD case for the Windows XP Professional CD. Press "Next." You have now transferred Windows XP Professional to your new computer.
