How to Vacation in Port Dover, Ontario
- 1). Catch the spirit of the summer season with annual parades, terrific weekend parties, festivals, celebrations, activities and great food. In mid-August, about 75,000 motorcycle enthusiasts descend on the small town for one full day of fun. Whether you prefer relaxing, tame adventures, or more high-stakes thrills, it's all there.
- 2). Hop aboard the River Rider for an hour-long cruise that steams along the Port Dover creek. Check out some of the other nearby beach towns including Turkey Point, a popular beach and teen cruising strip, Long Point, which juts into the lake and Port Ryerse. All meander along the Lake Erie coastline.
- 3). Head to the Sandalmaker on the pier and get fitted for a pair of handcrafted leather sandals. Then browse through some of the other unique shops on the boardwalk. You’ll find unusual knick-knack stores and trendy beachwear shops. Don’t miss Wendy’s Surf Shop, right beside Knechtel’s Restaurant where you can enjoy your lunch on the outdoor picnic tables.
- 4). Check out the Norfolk Tavern and the newly expanded Cap’n Billy’s if you’re looking to meet some new people. Both places are packed every night and serve an excellent brunch on the weekends. Tables are filled with egg dishes, pancakes, waffles, breads, salads, deserts and much more.
- 5). Walk along Main Street, a popular eight-block stretch that slopes down to the water’s edge of Harbor Street. It’s a shopping, dining and entertainment mecca, packed with small town stores and souvenir shops. At the bottom, turn right for a stroll along the pier to the scenic lighthouse. Then you can relax in Powell Park, the site of an annual Arts & Crafts Festival.
