Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, BC Hotels
- Port Alberni offers more than a dozen lodging options, but only two actual hotels. Both are on the north side of town, near the Alberni Inlet and the Port Alberni Port Authority. This general area offers easy access to the waterway and its boating and fishing opportunities, so if you're hoping to get in some outdoor recreation while in Port Alberni, either hotel is worth consideration. The area is also close to Port Alberni's major roadway --- Highway 4 --- making it ideal for travelers who are passing through.
- Port Alberni is about 45 miles north of Pacific Rim National Park, which is located on the southwestern shore of Vancouver Island, alongside the Pacific Ocean. You'll have several options for reaching the park from your hotel in Port Alberni, including a 90-minute drive along the steep, twisting Highway 4. You can also take a ferry from Port Alberni --- the docks at China Creek Marina are close to both hotels --- which takes about four hours. Salmon fishing is abundant around Port Alberni, and the area also offers hiking trails, swimming and diving, golf, shopping and dining.
- Best Western Barclay Hotel Port Alberni is just a couple of blocks east of Alberni Inlet, and about two miles north of the China Creek Marina, which offers boat slips and rentals. The hotel offers rooms and suites with all the standard amenities, including microwaves and refrigerators, as well as free wireless Internet access, a heated outdoor swimming pool, a sauna and hot tub and a fitness center. A liquor mart, cafe and sports bar and grill are all within walking distance to the hotel.
- Howard Johnson sits off Highway 4 near the middle of town, and offers 42 rooms with either double or queen beds, plus refrigerators, microwaves and free wireless Internet access. Pets are welcome for no additional fee, but call ahead to verify that pet-friendly rooms are available. The hotel has on-site dining at Creeker's Pub and Solda's Family Restaurant, as well as a liquor, beer and wine store. In addition to being just a couple of blocks north of Alberni Inlet, Howard Johnson is close to golfing opportunities, with the 18-hole Alberni Golf Club course about three miles to the north.
