What"s Up with Eclipses? Some Astrologers" Quotes

Eclipse Sandwich

I'm writing during the titillating in-between -- the two weeks between one Eclipse and another.  If you're someone who likes to ponder the Moon, and hitch your attention to the power of a moment-in-time, Eclipses are the Motherlode of the Moon's cycle.

During a Lunar Eclipse, the Earth is between the Sun and Moon (in opposite Zodiac signs).  This has shades of the void, of the New Moon, but with the high charge of Full Moons.

There can be a sense of moving into the terrain of the unknown in some way.

A Solar Eclipse is when the Sun is blocked by the Moon (with Sun and Moon in the same Zodiac signs).  Symbolically, it's a time for usually nocturnal longings and real feelings to be encountered with full force.

I'm reflecting today on eclipses, and wanted to thoughtfully collect some quotes from astrologers around the 'net.  I hope you find these snippets helpful!

Astrologers on Eclipses

Jessica Shepherd on Eclipses:  Moving Beyond the Four Walls of the Known

The shared commonality of all eclipse seasons is their soul-stretching nature -how they ask us to make room for something radically new and different in an area of life. Eclipses ask us to trust what presents, be it a loss, a gain, or a hard truth.

April Elliott Kent on Eclipses, The Latitudes of Home:

I set about deconstructing my own life, isolating major events and listing the eclipses that occurred in the same years. And what I found was that the most pivotal events of my life tended to have something in common: eclipses, forming aspects to the same few, sensitive areas of my birth chart. I began to develop a sense that eclipses forecasted scary, prickly moments of truth, turning points, when something important is changing and the landscape of your life suddenly looks unfamiliar, even alien.

From Cafe Astrology:

Eclipses are tied to changing circumstances. However, we are usually the ones to precipitate or to attract changes because our "inner guides" know that we need it. Human beings are progressive by nature, and although we might stay in situations that are making us miserable for longer than we should, deep down inside we know that change is necessary for growth.

From Celeste Teal:

An eclipse contains a stimulating and excitable energy that is sometimes a bit destabilizing. Activity often increases shortly following an eclipse or even prior to the eclipse in some cases. This is why it’s recommended to hold off on making major life altering changes or decisions around the time of an eclipse. The atmospheric energy needs a little time to settle out. That way your new plan, project or strategy has a better chance of stabilizing and working out in your favor.

From The Luminaries:  The Psychology of the Sun and Moon in the Horoscope by Liz Greene and Howard Sasportas:

There is a lot of argument about just what eclipses mean and how long their effects last; but there is no argument about their power as triggers for natal placements and for slower-moving transits and progressed aspects, which may hang around within orb for a long time but which usually "come ripe" when an eclipse sets them off.

Marina Macario of Dark Star Astrology:

Unfortunately many of us are still carrying the cell memory of “eclipse fear” that we common people had when most of us didn’t really know the astronomy behind the phenomenon. Those that could predict eclipses had a great weapon in their hands from which to scare the public into obedience. It was very useful to issue dark omens that implied almighty god was punishing the masses for their disobedience, rebelliousness, or whatever behaviour was liberating .. Can’t have the serfs feeling empowered can we, or even worse, feeling their own divinity! Saying that, it’s true that eclipses do have the power to “breakdown”, but if we are aware of where they are likely to hit us, we can attempt to transmute the eclipse into a “break though”.
