There have been many bridges here - all called London Bridge - the most famous being the one in Elizabethan times which had shops and houses on it!
London Bridge once had 19 arches and in the very cold winters the Thames used to freeze solid so people could walk across. 'Frost Fairs' were held on the ice each year, up to 1814. To stop the water freezing the bridge is now only allowed to have 2 or 3 arches.
