How to Make a Willow Twig Table
- 1). Place harvested, straight willow limbs on a flat surface and sort into size. Cut four 18-inch long pieces, four 14-inch bottom side pieces, four 12-inch top side pieces and numerous 12- to 14-inch twigs for the top shelf of the table.
- 2). Drill pilot holes in the tops and bottoms of the eight side pieces large enough for the sheetrock screws to be inserted. In the four legs drill a pilot hole 2 inches and 14 inches from the top of each leg. Place a top side piece in line with the hole 2 inches from the top of one leg and screw into place. Screw a bottom side piece into place and screw through the pilot hole 14 inches from the top. Screw a second leg into place on the opposite side.
- 3). Repeat Step 2 to make a second leg frame.
- 4). Drill pilot holes on each leg at right angles to the first pilot holes 2 1/2 and 13 ½ -inches from the top of each leg. Position a top and bottom side piece of wood on two of the legs of one leg frame in the newly drilled pilot holes and screw into place. Hold the second leg frame in place and screw the top and bottom side pieces into place to form a freestanding four legged table frame.
- 5). Bend and reposition the legs to level the table. Cut the ends of four pieces of willow at 45 degree angles and shorten the wood to between 6 and 8 inches to form braces for the table. Nail the wood braces into place using 1 ½-inch nails between the underside of the bottom side piece and one leg of the table. A brace should be positioned on each leg to add stability.
- 6). Lay the twigs that will form the top shelf of the table into position on the frame. Hammer 1-inch panel brads through each twig into the frame to form a stronger surface.
