How to Change the Battery on a Yamaha V Star
- 1). Don safety goggles, plastic gloves and a safety apron. Batteries are filled with corrosive acid which can burn your skin, destroy your clothes and blind you. Safety first.
- 2). Find the battery compartment. On Yamaha V Stars, the compartment is on the right side of the bike. The cover of this compartment is secured by a hex head screw which must be removed with an Allen wrench.
- 3). Use the Allen wrench to unscrew the compartment cover.
- 4). Un-clip the black plastic clip that holds the V Star's battery in place inside the compartment.
- 5). Remove the battery from the compartment to access the terminals.
- 6). Pull the wire connected to the negative (black) terminal off the battery, then pull the wire connected to the positive (red) terminal off the battery.
- 7). Attach the positive wire to the positive terminal on the new battery, then the negative wire to the negative terminal.
- 8). Secure the new battery in the compartment with the black plastic clip.
- 9). Replace the compartment lid and screw it in place with your Allen wrench.
