How to Remove an Oil Plug

    • 1). Locate the oil drain plug. It will be found under your car's engine at the bottom of the engine oil pan.

    • 2). Place the correct size box wrench over the oil drain plug. It should fit tight without any play at all.

    • 3). Turn the box wrench counterclockwise to loosen the oil drain plug. Turn it out the rest of the way by hand once it is loose enough to turn without a wrench.

    • 4). Set the oil drain plug aside for re-installation once the oil change procedure is completed.
