How to Remove the Baseboards to Lay Carpet

    • 1). Make a small cut with a utility knife where the baseboard meets the wall. Slice through the paint, moving your hand slowly along the top of the baseboard.

    • 2). Hammer a broad-based putty knife between the wall and the baseboard. Only hammer the putty knife down about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.

    • 3). Place the pry bar end between the broad-based putty knife and the baseboard. Tap lightly with the hammer. Lift on the pry bar slowly to separate the baseboard from the wall.

    • 4). Repeat Steps 2 and 3 along the length of the baseboard. Remove the baseboard from the wall and place it in another room.
