How to Remove Interior Wood Trim

    • 1). Score the edges. Wherever the trim edge meets the wall, run a utility knife over the area to break the seal caused by paint, caulking or wood putty.

    • 2). Slide the pry bar into the edge opening. Find an edge opening closest to the nails. Then, using the flat end of the pry bar, slide it gently into the area between the trim and the wall.

    • 3). Lightly tap the pry bar. Using the hammer, lightly tap the opposite end of the pry bar until it fits snugly between the wall and the trim.

    • 4). Gently pull the pry bar toward you. This gentle motion should cause the finishing nails, used to attach the trim to the wall, to pop up a bit.

    • 5). Remove the nails. With the claw end of the hammer, pull the nails out of the trim. This will push the trim back toward the wall a bit. Once the nails are out, the trim comes down.
