How to Fix Separating Wood Floors

    • 1). Pull out any loose material or debris from the floor gaps, using a vacuum hose.

    • 2). Measure the longest gap from end to end. Cut a piece of hemp rope to that length with your utility knife. Pull apart the braided sections of rope to get a piece about half-again wider than the space.

    • 3). Repeat for each gap of the floor, so you have a rope section to fill each one.

    • 4). Pour a few inches of wood stain in your bucket. Submerge the cut pieces of rope into the stain. Let them sit for about a minute. Remove them and lay them out on old papers to dry overnight.

    • 5). Set the first piece of rope over the space it was cut for. Press it firmly into the gap, using the palm of your hand. Get the rope fully set into the space, so the surface of the floor is even there.

    • 6). Repeat for each gap.
