How to Draw a Custom 1962 Chevy
- 1). Download then print out a reference photo of the particular Chevy model you'd like to draw and customize (e.g., Impala, Bel Air, Biscayne).
- 2). Use a piece of paper to trace a square grid with square subdivisions over your reference photo. To form the grid, draw a square surrounding the car. Then, divide the square in half, both vertically and horizontally. Repeat this method for each square until you have squares whose sides measure less than 1 inch. This grid will be your drawing aid.
- 3). Duplicate the grid (but not the car) on a separate piece of paper. You'll recreate each curve of each square from Step 2 onto this blank grid.
- 4). Study the edges and curves of the top left square of the drawing aid from Step 2. Take note of exactly where they intersect the edges of the square.
- 5). Recreate the curves and edges from Step 4 in the top left square of the duplicate grid you made in Step 3.
- 6). Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for the remaining squares in the grid. Move from left to right and top to bottom. When you're finished, you'll see the image of the car from the original photo.
- 7). Erase the grid from your drawing. This will leave gaps in the car's image so redraw areas as needed. Consult the original photo to help you fill the gaps.
- 8). Color or shade the car. Use the same colors as those in your reference photo or choose a custom color.
- 9). Complete the car by customizing it: For a classic customization, use colored markers or pencils to draw flames that extend from the car's front to about mid-way along its hood. You can depict the flames as elongated "U" shapes that turn from yellow to red the further back they appear from the car's front.
