How to Achieve a Good Result Using Car Aerosols on a Car Body

    • 1). Purchase paint aerosols that are meant for car exteriors at your local auto body shop. These paints are meant to withstand the elements better than acrylic craft paints, and the dispenser nozzles will be intended for attachment to a spray device.

    • 2). Prepare the exterior surface of the vehicle on which you want to paint. Scrape off old paint, or use a chemical paint remover from your local auto body shop. Wash the vehicle, and let it dry thoroughly in the sun after the paint is stripped.

    • 3). Purchase a new spray gun device or nozzle to attach to your aerosol cans. Refrain from using an old nozzle which may be clogged and cause unevent paint flow.

    • 4). Perform test sprays on cardboard before attempting to paint your car. Practice even strokes within a designated square on the cardboard. Look at the cardboard closely to ensure that there are no heavy paint spots from uneven spraying. Remove the nozzle and clean if there are paint spots; your nozzle may have blockages.

    • 5). Spend the most amount of time in this project covering the parts of your car which you do not want painted. Cover windows, headlights, mirrors and other non-painted parts of the car with at least two layers of newspaper and masking tape.

    • 6). Prime the vehicle's surface with a liquid primer that is best suited to the paint brand you will use. Primers that are sold in the same brand as the paint you have chosen work well together.

    • 7). Leave the car to dry thoroughly in the sun after every coat is applied.
