- 1). Spread tile adhesive, or mastic, to the wall, using the notched trowel to create a thin, even layer. The notches in the trowel leave rows of separation between mastic, allowing it to spread and adhere after pressure is applied.
- 2). Push the first tile against the mastic, using the lines provided by the notched trowel for guidance to line the tiles up. Hold each tile in place for 30 to 60 seconds so that the tile sticks to the mastic and doesn't slide on the wall.
- 3). Add additional tiles to the mastic already spread by lining them up with the edges of the first tile you placed. Install tile spacers between tiles to maintain proper space for grout.
- 4). Let the tiled wall dry for approximately 24 hours once the tiles have been glued to the wall's surface. Apply the grout to the spaces with a float, wiping away any grout on tile surfaces. The grout acts as an additional adhesive to keep the tiles in place on the wall.
