How to Install Wood Moulding

    • 1). Measure the wall, at the floor, from the corner outward. Transfer the measurement to a piece of moulding. Put the mark on the top edge of the trim (the part that will face up when the trim is set on the wall).

    • 2). Set the moulding on your miter saw platform, standing it on its bottom edge so it's oriented in the same way it will be on the wall. Move it so your mark is directly under the blade.

    • 3). Swivel the blade to 45 degrees pointing outward from the mark for outside corners. Swivel the blade to 45 degrees pointing inward from the mark for inside corners. Engage the saw and make the cut, holding the trim steady with your free hand. Cut in one smooth, quick motion, bringing the blade all the way through the trim.

    • 4). Repeat the whole process for the other piece of moulding coming out from the other side of the corner. Cut it from the opposite end as you did the first one, and set the moulding on the opposite side of the blade as before. Turn the blade to point away from the trim for outside corners and toward the trim for inside corners.

    • 5). Position the two pieces of moulding on the wall, with the mitered cuts meeting at the corner to make a 90-degree angle. Secure the pieces to the wall with trim nails and a hammer. Don't hammer the nails all the way in (you'll damage the moulding surface), but stop when the nail heads are just above the wood; then sink them slightly under the surface using a nailset.
