- 1). Put on work gloves and safety glasses before attempting the nail removal process.
- 2). Examine the terrazzo floor to see if the nails are inserted through wooden slats, called carpet strips. If so, insert a pry bar in between the nails and break the wooden slats off. Continue until you have broken off as much of the wood as possible. If there are no wooden slats, skip this step.
- 3). Insert a metal cutting wheel into a hand-held grinder. Turn the grinder on and hold the cutting wheel as close to the base of the nail as possible. Move the grinder to the side and hold the wheel against the base of the nail until it cuts the head of the nail completely off.
- 4). Place the cutting wheel directly above the nail stub and lower it to grind down the nails until they are flush with the terrazzo floor.
- 5). Repeat the process to cut off all remaining nail heads in the same manner and grind the nails down until they are flush with the floor surface.
