How to Add Oil to a Trailer Jack
- 1). Ensure that your jack is turned off if motorized and locked in place. If possible, remove the jack from the trailer by resting the trailer's forward arm on cinder blocks or another suitable support.
- 2). Remove the power motor from the top of the jack if you have a motorized jack. These are usually connected with two or more allen screws which connect the powered section to the jack.
- 3). Using the manual crank, extend the jack to its maximum length. Do not force the jack to go further than it should. If you encounter more than a modest amount of resistance, do not try to extend the jack further.
- 4). Lubricate all surfaces which move against other surfaces on your jack with your high melting point grease. This includes the exterior shaft of your jack, as the individual metal cylinders move against each other when the jack is in operation. Avoid applying grease to exposed electronic components or wires during this process.
- 5). Reattach the power motor if you have a motorized jack. Reinstall your jack onto the front arm of your trailer. Test the jack to ensure proper operation before removing the cinder blocks.
