Marty Markowitz, the Early Years:
- 1962: Markowitz graduates from Wingate High School in Crown Heights, the neighborhood in which he was born and raised.
- 1970: Receives a B.A. in Political Science from Brooklyn College.
- 1971: Organizes what is known today as Brooklyn Housing and Family Services, a tenants' advocacy organization.
- 1979: Elected to the New York State Senate, where he served 11 consecutive terms.
- 1999: Marries his wife, Jamie.

- 2001: Elected Brookyn Borough President.
- 2002: Supports moving the NBA Nets to an arena in Downtown Brooklyn.
- 2004: Creates the Brooklyn Center on Health Disparities.
