How to Bore a Shaft

    • 1). Put on protective gloves and leave them on throughout this entire procedure.

    • 2). Heat the cavity housing the tip of the shaft in the club head, using an industrial-strength heating gun. Dispense heat evenly at the top and bottom and be patient. Bore-thru head tend to take much longer than hosel heads.

    • 3). Pull the head off the tip of the shaft once the old epoxy is completely melted. Never pull the shaft out of the head and do not twist, especially if you want to reuse the shaft in the future.

    • 4). Set the head aside and allow it to cool.

    • 5). Press the shaft plug into the mouth at the tip of the replacement shaft and wrap the tip in masking tape.

    • 6). Hold the tip of the old shaft against the taped tip of the new one and draw a line marking the appropriate angle of the tip with a black marker.

    • 7). Hold the new shaft down firmly on a table with the tip going over the edge and begin to saw along the black marker line. Use a hacksaw with confident and forceful thrusts. It is often easiest to only saw forwards and reset in between each thrust to ensure a clean edge.

    • 8). Remove the tape and use sandpaper to polish and smooth the tip. Once smoothed, roll the replacement ferrule (small metal or rubber ring that strengthens the bond between shaft and head) over the tip of the new shaft.

    • 9). Clean out any residual epoxy left inside the bore-thru cavity of the club head using a small piece of rolled sandpaper.

    • 10

Drip epoxy along the inner walls of the bore-thru cavity. Don't worry if some drips out onto the floor, just be sure it is dispensed evenly inside the cavity.

    • 11

Fit the head onto the tip of the shaft. Place the grip end of the shaft on the floor and press the head down onto it until the tip of the shaft is flush in line with the sole of the club head. Make sure the angles match and again, do not twist.

    • 12

Slide the ferrule up against the mouth of the bore-thru cavity and allow the club to set for at least 24 hours.
