How to Draw a Plastic 2-Liter Soda Bottle

    • 1). Set up your still life. Place a full 2-liter bottle of soda on a surface near a strong source of light. A plastic bottle full of liquid is easier to draw than an empty one.

    • 2). Erect an easel several feet away from your arrangement. Secure a piece of drawing paper to a drawing board.

    • 3). Draw a horizontal line across the drawing paper one-third of the way up with an HB pencil and a ruler. This line will work as a reference for you to place the bottle on a flat surface and help give your drawing realism.

    • 4). Create the framework. Look at the bottle, and hold your pencil at an arm's length away. Close one eye and measure the length of the bottle with your pencil. Mark the length on your drawing paper, beginning at the horizontal line.

    • 5). Repeat the measuring process to get the width of the bottle. Hold the pencil again at an arm's length, but this time position it horizontally. Measure the width of the bottle and mark it on your paper. Draw another vertical line the same length as your first line where you marked the width of the bottle.

    • 6). Draw ovals. Sketch two large oval shapes at the bottom and top of your soda bottle. This will create the base and shoulder of your bottle. Create a smaller oval above the shoulder oval to create the lid of your bottle.

    • 7). Fill in the outline. Draw the neck, lid details, shoulders and packaging label outline. Use a light grade pencil such as an F grade pencil.

    • 8). Add details. Use an HB pencil to fill in the details of the packaging and outline of your soda bottle. Switch to a softer-grade pencil, like a B or 2B pencil to create the shadows and darker shading of your bottle. Use short parallel hatching marks to create dimension. Erase where the light hits the brightest of your bottle to create highlights.

    • 9). Erase your outlined shapes as you fill in the details of your drawing.
