Diets For Children With ADHD - How To Plan An Easy Simple Diet Which Is Effective

Let us face it.
Nobody wants to ban foods with artificial coloring, preservatives, sweeteners and flavorings because it becomes an impossible task! This is however the basis of the Feingold diet which has been one of the most popular diets for children with ADHD.
While there is evidence to show that certain children with ADHD can indeed benefit from such a diet, it is generally a hit and miss affair.
Simply because each child is different.
As if we did not know! So, when planning diets for children with ADHD, I keep a few simple principles in mind.
I know that too much sugar is going to cause a sugar spike and later a crash as glucose levels suddenly fall.
I know also that I can easily prevent that crash just by adding protein at breakfast.
That can be cheese or eggs for example and can be given alongside some simple carbohydrates so that there is enough to keep the child going for quite a few hours.
My second simple principle is to make sure that there are enough Vitamin B elements in my child's diet.
Why? Because I know that some Vitamin Bs like niacin which is Vitamin B3 really help the brain to function better.
There are lots of studies to show this and it is no accident that researchers are using this as part of the search to find a cure for Alzheimers disease.
What do I do? I make sure that there are lots of leafy green vegetables, meat, nuts, peanuts included in the diet so that there is great brain fuel for the vital brain transmitters.
It is going to help with ADHD symptoms and over time, the child will be able to concentrate better and have a greater attention span too.
If we are really lucky, there will be less hyperactivity and restlessness and generally there will be less disruptive behavior.
My last simple step is to make sure that my kid has enough Omega 3 essential fatty acids because I know that 60% of the brain is made of fat.
I forget about all the fancy fish because I know that kids do not generally like that food and also that there are concerns about mercury levels.
I simply find a good pharmaceutical grade Omega 3 supplement to do the job instead and it saves me a ton of money and inconvenience.
So, there you have it.
We should not forget that diets for children with ADHD are just one part of a comprehensive program of treatment which includes behavior therapy, green time activities, a structured and orderly household and maybe some medication to help with hyperactivity.
